Secure File Shredder
DoD 5220.22-M
Desktop App Only
The Problem
When you delete a file, it is NOT actually deleted — the operating system just marks the space as available. The original data sits on disk until overwritten by chance, making it trivially recoverable with free forensic tools.
The Solution
The Secure File Shredder uses the DoD 5220.22-M multi-pass overwrite algorithm, making it mathematically impossible to recover any fragment of the shredded data, even with professional forensic hardware.
How It Works — Step by Step
- 1Select the files or folders you want to permanently destroy.
- 2The engine overwrites each file with random data — multiple passes.
- 3File names and directory entries are also scrambled.
- 4Finally, the file is deleted, with no trace remaining on disk.
- 5A destruction certificate log is generated for compliance records.
